Our History

In the latter half of 1987, a Crisis Accommodation Committee was formed in Atherton Shire to consider ways of meeting a growing problem of homelessness. This Committee, under the chairmanship of the Atherton Shire Chairman included representatives of the Tableland Neighbourhood & Information Centre, Tablelands Women’s Centre, Department of Family Services, Salvation Army and Biddi Biddi Housing Co-operative.

In July 1988, a public meeting was held in Atherton to discuss solutions to the housing crisis and the Atherton Community Housing Association was formed. It was later renamed the Tableland Community Housing Association and in 1989 became incorporated in this name.
